Great Lakes Center reaches out to the Chicago community with a variety of programs for players of all ages offering friendly competition and volleyball instruction. The Youth Academy at Great Lakes Center is perfect for kids from the ages of 5-18, as there are several programs designed to appeal to kids in different age groups and skill levels.
Kids can get involved with GLC as early as kindergarten with VolleyTots, which promotes a healthy start in team sports and cooperation. This program takes place over six weeks with hour-long classes once per week. It is a fun and affordable introduction to volleyball that kids can enjoy in a co-ed setting.
Level 1 caters to students in 3rd and 4th grade, and it is a co-ed program with longer classes and tournament play. Kids can also sign up for the GLC Youth Clinic, which will focus on fundamental skills for children who are passionate about volleyball.
By Level 2, children have begun to refine their skills and been introduced to competitive tournament play. Here kids are split into male and female groups in grades 5 and 6.
Level 3 is open to all players in the 7th grade, and there is the option for Sports Performance Volleyball tryouts. SPVB is a college-prep volleyball program hosted at Great Lakes Center, and it teaches kids skills at a much higher level than open programs.
To explore details of each of these programs, visit Great Lakes Center online or call 630-898-6400. GLC is home to several clubs and teams as well as their own clinics and academies that allow kids of all ages to discover their love of volleyball while refining their skills.
